Eligh & Scarub - Living Legends - Tuesday 10/27 @ Mo|Tav

This Tuesday Eligh & Scarub of the Living Legends come to the Mo|Tav stage at 9pm. Buy your tickets online at http://motherstavern.com/?location=events or at Boo Boo Records downtown SLO. This is going to be a sell out show so get your tickets NOW! Opening the show is local lyricists Public Defendaz.

In first grade, at a friend's birthday party, Eligh and the rest of the kids watched a movie called "Beat Street." The movie made quite an impression and inspired Eligh to make a trip to his local record store where he picked up LL Cool J's "I'm Bad." After one listen, he knew what he wanted to do. The year was 1985. Eligh's first official step into the hip-hop world was under the name lower m.c. and his first crew was the Boogalu Badboys with his friend Scarub. At the time, they were both attending Hamilton High School in L.A. They changed their name to Urban Instinct and then they met Murs, a fellow Hamilton student. The three of them became known as 3 Melancholy Gypsys (3MG). Eligh was living with his aunt and uncle, but was kicked out of the house. This would end up being the event that led to him becoming part of the Living Legends. After being kicked out, Eligh moved up to the bay area and began staying on a friend's couch. The friends he was staying with had a house party one night and one of the partygoers was The Grouch. Through a mutual friend they were introduced and ended up hooking up to record a song together. While they were working on the song, Sunspot came by and met Eligh and brought Eligh into the crew. From there, the rest is Legends history. Eligh credits a wide range of musical influences including Michael Jackson, Freestyle Fellowship, and Bob Dylan. Under his beat-making alter ego, Gandalf, Eligh has helped provide the backbone of the Legends sound and is responsible for many of the Legends classic songs. Eligh's latest project, The Grouch & Eligh "No More Greener Grasses," is available now.

"Swirl, Smell, Chug, Blackout - Please puke responsibly"!!

"Swirl, Smell, Sip, Spit - Please taste responsibly"! is the slogan of last nights 2 annual Crave event put on by the Paso Wine Alliance. In theory Crave makes sense; creating a event which caters to the 30 & under wine drinkers in a lounge environment.

After observing my 2nd year of this event I want to make a recommendation to Crave to change it's slogan to something more appropriate to what really goes on at the event; I would suggest "Swirl, Smell, Chug, Blackout - Please puke responsibly"!!

For the second year I observed college kids overindulging on wine with little food provided at the event. The events emphasis is not on wine education & after talking with a dozen of the wineries represented all where aware that very little business crossover is expected from this event. The food venders where pillaged by the young winos and the Chef's where not there to showcase their food or culinary talents but rather act as cafeteria staff feeding a frenzy of drunken patrons.

When Crave was over the well oiled attendees spilled out to the downtown bars where we had to deal with over-intoxicated kids before they even made it into our establishments. Every person who puked in our around our business last night had a Crave wristband along with a fight & drunken arrests!

With all the problems we are having with the city in regards to downtown bars & the problem with public intoxication an event like Crave could not have come at a worse time! I encourage the PWA to revisit the format of the event and hopefully next year we wont have to pick up the pieces from the aftermath of Crave!

CRAVE – A PASO ROBLES WINE EXPERIENCE, SLATED FOR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2009
Tickets to Popular Wine Tasting Event Now Available on www.pasowine.com
Paso Robles, CA (September 24, 2009) Paso Robles Wine Country satisfies all your cravings this October with the popular wine tasting event, CRAVE – A Paso Robles Wine Experience! The Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance announced tickets are available at www.pasowine.com for CRAVE, slated for Friday, October 23, 2009 from 7:30 – 10 p.m. This distinctive event, now in its second year, blends wine tasting tradition with a stylish format geared toward millennial wine enthusiasts.

According to the Wine Market Council, the millennial generation exhibits the same receptivity to wine as leading edge baby boomers and offer the wine industry the kind of growth potential not seen in more than thirty years. With wine consumption among this age group on the rise the Alliance recognizes the need to focus marketing programs on millennials. CRAVE targets the next generation of wine consumers, educates in a fun way and positions Paso Robles as the choice wine region.

“CRAVE attendees are encouraged to join us in Paso Robles Wine Country during the harvest season to experience wine country,” said Stacie Jacob, executive director of the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance. “CRAVE is the ideal way for millennials to familiarize themselves with Paso wines. November and December is the perfect time to take advantage of wicked wine steals in preparation for the holiday season.”

CRAVE takes place at the Veterans Hall in San Luis Obispo (801 Grand Avenue). Various Paso Robles wine varietal bars are featured and paired with the finest fare of San Luis Obispo County. More than 60 Paso Robles wineries showcase a single wine from their portfolio allowing attendees to focus on each varietal presented. CRAVE is the ultimate Paso Robles wine tasting experience complemented by music in a relaxed, lounge-like atmosphere. Visit www.pasowine.com for a complete listing of the nine varietal bar descriptions and food pairings to be showcased during the event.

Thanks to The Wine Wrangler (www.thewinewrangler.com), various safe rides will be offered free of charge. A safe ride from Downtown Paso Robles, to and from the Veterans Hall in SLO will be available. In addition, three drop-off spots will be offered throughout the evening, including to the Cal Poly Student Union, Laguna Shopping Center and Downtown SLO. Responsible tasting is also an important element of CRAVE. Practice of the Four Ss of responsible tasting -- swirl, smell, sip, spit -- is a valuable way for wine enthusiasts to experience and understand each wine from first taste to last. This practice is encouraged and is essential to make the most of this Paso Robles Wine Experience.

Tickets are $40 presale and $50 at the door, and include an evening of unlimited tasting, food pairings, as well as a commemorative glass made by Riedel. Be sure to follow Paso Robles Wine on Twitter and become friends with Paso Robles Wine on Facebook to stay updated CRAVE enhancements, exciting offers as well as pre parties and after parties.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.pasowine.com or at 800.549.WINE (9463). Photo identification verifying age will be required at time of entry. Tickets are limited, and advance purchase is highly recommended, as CRAVE sold out in advance in 2008. Free parking will be available at the Veterans Hall Parking lot. For a complete list of wineries participating, to purchase your ticket, or for more information about CRAVE, go to www.pasowine.com.

The Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance represents wineries, growers and businesses in Paso Robles Wine Country. Centrally located between San Francisco and Los Angeles, along California’s Central Coast, Paso Robles Wine Country is California’s fastest growing wine region. It encompasses more than 26,000 vineyard acres and more than 180 wineries. For more information, visit www.pasowine.com
